About this artwork

At the end of 1961, Jeremy Moon gave up his job in advertising and began painting full time. Moon was deeply influenced by a group of British abstract artists known as The Situation Group, which can be seen in the geometric shapes, bright colours, and grid-like patterns which are recurring motifs in his work. Like others, he shaped the canvas itself, creating new ways of juxtaposing and combining colours. The year this painting was made (tragically the final year of his life), Moon commented: ‘It seems that all the rhythms and flow and life and vitality in painting actually operates best when the painting itself is one static harmonious form.’
