Arthur, John Hope and Sophia Finlay, 'At the Minnow Pool' [Group 99]
About this artwork
Hill and Adamson have captured a sense of play with the three Finlay children, who are shown fishing for minnows. Their father was Charles Finlay, an important solicitor who was Keeper of the General Register of Sasines of Scotland (the Scottish land register). Sophia’s cast off bonnet and the dangling fishing rod suggest a carefree pastime and a spontaneous scene, however the photographers would have deliberately posed this trio.
