Walter Carr, 1925 - 1998. Actor and comedian
About this artwork
Walter (Wally) Carr was born in Larkhall, Lanarkshire and joined the professional theatre ranks in 1955, becoming a member of the Citizens Theatre and later the Gateway Theatre companies. This portrait depicts Carr at Perth Theatre where he played many a pantomime dame. The artist June Crisfield Chapman was used to seeing Carr perform in achingly funny comedic roles – on stage and television – but having seen him perform at Perth Theatre in more of a serious guise, dressed in formal evening wear, she wanted to record this side of him.
