Acrylic on canvas paper

My dad Michael Simpson was born in Donegal, Ireland and immigrated to Scotland when he was a boy. His family were the largest in Scotland (he had 21 siblings) and Pathé made a newsreel about them titled Quiverful in 1959. My mum and dad celebrated 40 years of marriage the year before he passed away in 2011. This painting is of a photograph I took while my dad was in hospital. I decided after many years to finally paint him. I have no formal art training and this is my first ever painted portrait.
