Alison Laing is a painter and illustrator based in Edinburgh who graduated from Edinburgh College of Art in 2021. Her creative practice encompasses a range of additional mediums such as textiles, embroidery and printmaking, and is categorised by her use of bold brushstrokes and energetic mark-making.

This submission entitled Self-Portrait 1 marks the beginning of her career as an artist in the creative industry. She chose to depict herself using a combination of oil paint and ink in order to represent who she is as an artist as it encompass both avenues of her professional practice.
