In 1938 Harryhausen began developing the idea for a full-length feature film. He created mock-ups of scenes by collaging together photos of the miniature sets he had in his garage studio and photos of himself and his father posing in their garden. Here you can see father and son pretending to battle a triceratops. The Evolution of the World project allowed Harryhausen to begin experimenting with the techniques which would eventually lead to dynamation, the method of animation for which he became famous.
