Valley of the Mist was an unrealised Willis O’Brien project which he developed following the release of Mighty Joe Young (1949). Harryhausen created some key drawings for the film. This work shows the strong influence of the French artist Gustave Doré (1832-1883) and King Kong, using a dark foreground and focusing the light on the centre of the image to create drama.
