Hans Mielich (Muehlich) (German, 1516 - 1573)
Hans Mielich was born in Munich and initially studied under his father, the painter Wolfgang Mielich. From 1536-9 he worked with Albrecht Altdorfer in the city of Regensburg. This period was crucial for his understanding of colour. In 1541 he went to Rome with the aid of the Duke of Bavaria and stayed there until 1543 when he returned to his native Munich. In 1558 he became dean of the Munich guild of painters. He continued to receive commissions with the help of the Dukes of Bavaria.
