What's on offer for you?

Our colleagues will tell you great things about working here.  We aim to ensure the National Galleries of Scotland is a great place to work, where our people thrive in a culture where we are trusted, empowered and engaged to achieve our true potential.

We want to tell you what we can offer you.  We offer a range of benefits to promote healthy working lifestyles for all our colleagues.

Working flexibly

We all want to achieve the best work-life balance! That’s why we have formal and informal flexibility options for everyone on our team, no matter their role.

Here’s how we help each other get that balance:

  • The right to request flexible working from day one for all of us
  • A mix of remote and office-based working for roles that can work in this way
  • Flexi-time for roles that allow
  • A range of ‘Family Friendly’ policies that support us with outside commitments

The Art of Wellbeing

We care about wellbeing so much – we have named our approach! ‘The Art of Wellbeing’ is our commitment to promote healthy working lives, provide a range of support and services, and help prevent ill-health by being proactive and embedding this in our ways of working.  We also ensure that our working policies and practices support our wellbeing approach.

We aim to create a sense of belonging, recognise all our contributions and encourage each other's personal development.

Here are some examples of how we do that.

  • Employee Assistance Programme
  • Colleague mental health first aiders and wellbeing champions
  • Raising awareness and providing training on topics important to us e.g., resilience, mental health, loneliness and connection

Time off for yourself

We understand how important it is to have time away from work. We all need to rest and recharge – it’s vital to maintaining a healthy work life balance.

We offer 25 days’ paid holiday each year rising to 30 days after five years of continuous service. We also offer 11.5 day’s paid public and privilege holidays each year.

Be green and cycle to work

Becoming ‘green’ is part of our commitment to embrace sustainable work practices. We are always finding ways to reduce our impact on the environment. In everything we do.

Our ‘Cycle to Work’ scheme helps us to support our environmental aims but is also important for all our wellbeing. Start the day with a ride to work!

Bringing creativity together

We showcase the talent within! Thought up by one of our own, Artists at Work is our way of celebrating the creative talent of our own colleagues. Many talented artists work with us and this exhibition celebrates their creativity. The exhibition is created by colleagues and volunteers with an open call for submissions across the organisation. The exhibition celebrates the passion and skill of a team charged with caring for and sharing the national art collection for the world.
