River Avon Book

About this artwork

The pages of this book are quite literally infused with the River Avon. The artist made the book by dipping pieces of paper into a thin mud and then cutting them down and binding them together. Long has lived in Bristol all his life, and often uses mud from the River Avon in his work. He has talked of feeling an affinity between the course of the river and his own journeys. Tidal mud taken from the river also has the additional aspect of being formed over thousands of years by the pull of the tides, their bringing the aspect of time into the work.
