David Allan
Scene on the Pont Neuf, Paris, with a Man Grooming a Dog
About this artwork
Allan’s journey between Scotland and Italy took him overland across France. He created this street scene in Paris by combining several drawings from his sketchbook, on display nearby. He sketched George the dog groomer, on the Pont Neuf, but the hot drinks vendor and his customer have been added to the scene. Allan noted that the hot drink on offer was ‘warm water mixed with a little liquorice juice’.
