Kelly Macdonald’s career was launched when she saw an advert for open auditions for the 1996 hit film Trainspotting whilst working in a bar. Since landing the role of Diane in the film she has starred in many TV shows and films both in the UK and in America. In 2005 she won an Emmy for her role in the BBC drama The Girl in the Café and in 2007 she featured in the Coen brother’s Academy Award-winning film No Country for Old Men. More recently Macdonald starred in the American smash-hit TV series Boardwalk Empire and in 2012 she was the voice of Merida in the Disney Pixar film, Brave. This photograph was taken shortly before the release of the 2001 film Gosford Park in which she starred alongside Helen Mirren and Alan Bates.

Donald MacLellan was born in the West Highlands in 1967. He is a leading portrait photographer whose first solo exhibition 'Black Power' showed at the National Portrait Gallery in London in 1998.
