Dirty Burning
About this artwork
To create this piece, Morton painted straight onto the unprimed canvas, making numerous tiny paint marks layered over each other. This repetitive action was influenced by the beats of electronic music. The title of the painting was inspired by the 1992 Sonic Youth album Dirty. Morton wants the viewer to 'enter into' the painting and respond psychologically to the colour. The pink area at the right and the 'self-portrait' in the red/pink area to the lower right, relate to this idea of entering the picture.
