About this artwork

This photograph has captured New York City’s famous Broadway bustling with horse drawn carriages and people. It shows the commercial district populated with furriers and countless other shops. Manual workers are building a rail or tram line down the centre of the street and there are piles of cobbles lining the pavement, still to be replaced. The photographer appears to have leaned out of a window or have been positioned on a balcony to capture the image, which gives an impressive view up the street.
