Talks & Lectures | Edinburgh Art Festival Keynote Lecture: Jeanne van Heeswijk 

Dutch visual artist Jeanne van Heeswijk spoke about the Community Wellbeing Collective in Wester Hailes area of Edinburgh discussing it in the context of her wider practice. She was commissioned as part of the 2022 Edinburgh Art Festival.

Renowned for her long-term community embedded projects, Van Heeswijk’s work questions art’s autonomy. Working collectively to co-produce projects she assists communities to collectively imagine a more just future. Jeanne van Heeswijk’s work has been featured in exhibitions worldwide, including the Liverpool, Shanghai, and Venice biennials. She received the 2011 Leonore Annenberg Prize for Art and Social Change, the 2012 Curry Stone Prize for Social Design Pioneers, 2014 was awarded the inaugural Keith Haring Fellowship in Art and Activism at the Center for Curatorial Studies and Human Rights Project at Bard College, and in 2017 she was a fellow at BAK, basis for actuele kunst, Utrecht. She lives and works in Rotterdam.
