Duo or Philanthropic Friends - Either two named cardholders (no guests) OR one named cardholder plus a guest.

All Friends can also bring in up to 4 free family children under 18 when they visit.

Please note your Friends card is non transferrable and you may be asked for proof of ID when you visit .

Your Friends card should be kept for the lifetime of your membership. When visiting an exhibition, one of our gallery shops or one of our cafés, the QR code on the card will be scanned to give you access to your Friends benefits. This means we do not need to replace your card each year.

Environmental sustainability is a key priority for us at the National Galleries of Scotland and by providing Friends with lifetime cards, we have vastly reduced the amount of plastic we send out each year. Our cards are made from 100% recycled plastic and can be recycled.  

When you are finished with your card, we encourage you to return it to us, and we will arrange for it to be recycled.

10% off excludes purchases of Friends memberships, gift vouchers, alcohol, stamps, single-use bags, donations and exhibition tickets. Not valid with any other offer unless stated. To receive this discount, a valid Friends membership card must be shown in store, membership number quoted on a telephone order or quoted in the special delivery instructions box as part of the online checkout.

As a Friend, you enjoy the benefit of free parking when visiting the Modern. Your Friends parking pass will be included with your welcome pack and is then issued to all Friends annually with your winter newsletter mailing. Please note that parking passes are not issued with your renewed Friends card.

The terms and conditions of the parking pass are as follows:

• The pass entitles Friends to free parking at the Modern car parks and is non-transferable.
• The pass must be displayed on your car window each time your car is parked to ensure free parking.
• The pass is strictly only to be used for free parking when visiting the Modern during opening hours or for Friends events.

The car parks at the Modern have barriers in operation outside of opening hours. This is to help us better provide parking spaces for Friends and gallery visitors.

Car Park Opening Hours:
Modern One: Monday to Friday 8.45am - 5.30pm and Saturday/Sunday 9.45am - 5.30pm
Modern Two: 9.45am - 5.30pm every day

You will receive three postal newsletters per year. These will include news of all of the exhibitions and events taking place at the galleries.

If you wish to opt out of receiving our postal newsletter please contact us.

You can choose to receive emails about our Friends events, news and offers. Please contact us by email at [email protected] or use our contact form to request that we send you these.

If you wish to receive emails about exhibitions and public events you can manage your preferences via your My NGS online account.

When a Friends event sells out, we start a waiting list so we can pass on any cancelations. Please contact us to be added to the list. If you are on a waiting list we will contact you by phone or email if a ticket becomes available. If there is a lot of interest in an event we will always try to repeat it if at all possible. Friends on the waiting list will be offered tickets for repeat events first.

As well as the exclusive Friends events programme, we have a huge range of public talks, workshops, concerts and tours.
