Gifts in Wills

Help us secure the future of the national collection for the next generation of art lovers.

At the National Galleries of Scotland we hold one of the world's finest collections of Western art. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, supporters and those who leave a gift in their Will, we care for, develop and share the collection with the broadest possible public.

After looking after your loved ones, please consider making a planned gift in your Will. Leaving just 1% of your estate could have a transformative impact. This gift will cost you nothing in your lifetime and is an opportunity for you to take your place in the rich history of the National Galleries of Scotland.

Leaving a planned gift will help us to:

  • Care for Scotland’s national collection, ensuring every artwork is protected for the future.
  • Deliver an innovative, inspiring programme of learning and engagement activity, designed to inspire everyone to engage with the nation’s art.
  • Grow the collection by acquiring significant artworks from history through to the present day.
  • Bring a world-class programme of exhibitions to the heart of Edinburgh.

Every gift, no matter how small, makes a vital contribution to the work of the Galleries. Unrestricted gifts are especially valuable, enabling us to direct your support wherever the need is greatest.

Previous gifts left to the National Galleries of Scotland

Throughout its lifetime, the National Galleries of Scotland has received the support of many generous donors. Some of the most significant support we have received has been through gifts in Wills.

Trusts and Foundations

Support from charitable trusts and foundations, locally, nationally and internationally, is a significant part of our fundraising programme and helps us to realise many of our most important projects. Donations large and small are vital.

Grants from trusts and foundations support many of our activities, including exhibitions, learning and engagement projects, acquisitions, conservation, research, publications and digital initiatives, and capital projects.

American Patrons

The American Patrons of the National Library and Galleries of Scotland (APNLGS) seeks to raise awareness in North America of the dynamic work of these two institutions; to identify and acquire items of artistic and historic value to Scotland; and to raise funds for initiatives at both institutions.

Donations may be used to support a wide variety of exhibitions, acquisitions, education programs and research undertaken at the National Library and National Galleries of Scotland.
