Alexander Fraser was born in Aberdeen. He studied at Gray's School of Art and Hospitalfield House, Arbroath from 1958 to 1962. After graduating he travelled in France and Italy. He later joined the staff of Gray's as a senior lecturer in painting. Fraser worked in variety of styles throughout his career, holding one man exhibitions since the mid 1960s. Since the 1980s, Fraser's work became increasingly figurative.
