Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother, 1900 - 2002, HM Queen Elizabeth II, 1926 - 2022 and King George VI, 1895 - 1952
About this artwork
This photograph was not available for public viewing in the lifetime of Queen Elizabeth (the Queen Mother) as she did not like it and considered it too informal. However, Mrs I. L. Hunter, who was then the photographer, Marcus Adams’ assistant, enjoyed it and made a print for her own pleasure. Far from damaging the public image of the monarchy, it shows one happy family: a slightly shy George VI, then still The Duke of York; his radiant wife; and a happy little girl having the giggles, yet to become Britain's Queen Elizabeth II.
