Scotland Rugby XV, Scotland Versus Ireland, 1938
About this artwork
Before Alexander Ayton Junior died in 1894 he had been successful in photographing sportsmen, including tennis players and football and cricket teams. In 1892 The Practical Photographer magazine featured two prints on behalf of Alex Ayton showing both the English and Scottish rugby teams that played that year. This sporting interest was continued in the Ayton business following his death. This photograph from 1938 shows the Scottish rugby team that played against Ireland on 26 February 1938. Mounted on card, the players’ names are listed below, alongside the score from the match.
