Collage on card and oil paint

Since graduating from Edinburgh College of Art in 2022, Anna McPhail has explored different themes and mediums. McPhail’s most recent work explored themes of sexual violence and loss of innocence.

These works were made in 2019 and are an experiment in colour, form and texture. McPhail used a combination of cutouts from 1970s textile magazines and vintage comics combined with oil paint and oil pastels, mimicking the textile patterns and colours. She is interested in the tension created between the graphic imagery and loose painterly marks.
