About this artwork
Eduardo Paolozzi proclaimed his love for ‘the ordinary objects that nobody stops to look at or admire’ and often incorporated these into his artworks. This collage was made when the artist was teaching Textile Design at London’s Central School of Art and Design. He had returned from Paris in 1949, where he had met many artists (like Max Ernst and Jean Arp) who inspired him to continue his scrapbook-approach to artmaking. This collage incorporates a variety of cut and torn printed papers, with different textural effects and abstract patterns dancing across the page. Similar works were used as the basis for his textile designs in the early 1950s.
