The Kelvingrove Eight: Janice Galloway, Alasdair Gray, Tom Leonard, Bernard MacLaverty, Liz Lochhead, Alan Spence, Jeff Torrington, Agnes Owens
About this artwork
This painting, commissioned by the Scottish National Portrait Gallery in 2000, depicts eight contemporary Scottish writers, located in an imaginary Glasgow West End flat. From left to right they are: Janice Galloway, Alasdair Gray, Tom Leonard, Bernard MacLaverty, Liz Lochhead, Alan Spence, Jeff Torrington and Agnes Owens. Colvin painted life-size portraits of the writers onto a three-dimensional room set, then photographed the set. A photograph of Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum represents the view from the 'window'. Books by the writers are scattered on the floor.
