The Only Solution was to...
About this artwork
This work is life-size and is displayed on the gallery floor, so that the viewer almost stumbles across it. It appears at first to be a real sleeping baby in a shiny leatherette chair; however, on closer inspection, it is revealed to be a facsimile. The subject itself is commonplace yet unlikely material for an artist. It is precisely this absence of dramatic or aesthetic potential that makes the work weird and compelling. The title invites the viewer to ponder upon what 'the only solution', and indeed the problem, might have been.
