About this artwork

The image that inspired this bronze sculpture was a blueprint for an instant camera that became obsolete before being produced. In this work, which is a maquette for a sculpture, Paolozzi has transformed the blueprint into a three-dimensional object. The final work was commissioned by the European Patent Office in Munich in an international sculpture competition, and was made in cast iron by Robert Taylor in Larbert, Scotland. The sculpture was situated outside the building, at the meeting point of two streets, and was made in sections which were spaced out so the public could enter the central space.
