About this artwork
This medal was commissioned by Ignatius White, the English Ambassador to Holland. He held a great party to celebrate the birth of James, to which William and Mary, the Prince and Princess of Orange, were not invited. The reverse shows the queen, in a canopied bed, holding up the swaddled infant prince.
