Seeded Grasses and Daisies by Joan Eardley (100 cm) stretched canvas
100 x 93 cm stretched canvas featuring artwork Seeded Grasses and Daisies, September by Joan Eardley from the National Galleries of Scotland Collection. Printed in finely textured artist-grade cotton substrate canvas at 400gsm using a 12 colour giclée, which consistently reproduces image details with outstanding clarity and detail.
Like all of Eardley’s landscapes and seascapes, this work was painted outdoors. It appears as if the viewer is buried in the grass and looking upwards. The direct connection with the landscape is increased by the inclusion of real grass and seed heads with the paint. These were probably picked from where the artist’s easel was standing, and they give the painting a varied texture.
Joan Kathleen Harding Eardley (18 May 1921 – 16 August 1963) was a British artist noted for her portraiture of street children in Glasgow and for her landscapes of the fishing village of Catterline and surroundings on the North-East coast of Scotland. One of Scotland's most enduringly popular artists, her career was tragically cut short by breast cancer.
