Figuring Fergusson: Looking at Contemporary Responses from Glasgow School of Art
- Monday, 26th May 2014, 12.45-1.30pm
The Studio - Modern One (Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art)
Kerry Watson, Librarian at the Gallery of Modern Art, discusses contemporary responses to John Duncan Fergusson’s life and work by current students at Glasgow School of Art. Students have been asked to produce work in response to the exhibition as part of a collaborative project between the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art Archive & Library and the Department of Painting and Printmaking at Glasgow School of Art. The project raises questions about the relevance of an artist like Fergusson to contemporary practice, drawing on the archival material, sketchbooks, paintings, sculptures and objects included in the exhibition to inform some diverse responses to the artist’s oeuvre and his place in the national collection. The students’ work will be on display in the Keiller Library at Modern Two from 5 April – 15 June 2014.
