What makes a responsible citizen?

  • Guided tour
  • Primary school
First two tours free; subsequent tours £40 (up to 33 pupils)

This guided tour encourages Primary to children to question the nature of the subjects in the National Portrait Gallery. Who gets their portrait in the national collection? Are they all responsible citizens?

The activities let them explore the evidence in the paintings, make discoveries and draw their own conclusions. They will find out about some of the key characters on display, why they are here and debate the ethical issues raised by the portraiture.
