Our Friends memberships

Our Friends enjoy the following benefits:

  • Unlimited free entry to all of our exhibitions for one year (during public opening hours)

Your Friends membership card

Your Friends membership card entitles you to all of the benefits outlined above. Please keep it safe and bring it with you to the Galleries when you visit.

If you have joined at a Gallery Shop or ticket desk you will receive a temporary membership card which you can begin using right away. Your permanent membership card will then follow by post with your welcome pack.

Visiting the Galleries

The Scottish National Gallery and the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art (Modern One) are now open. The Scottish National Portrait Gallery will reopen on Sunday 8 November. All visitors, including our Friends, must book a free, timed ticket in advance.

Ray Harryhausen | Titan of Cinema

Modern Two will reopen with this blockbuster exhibition on Saturday 24 October. Our Friends receive free entry to all National Galleries of Scotland exhibitions but must book a timed ticket in advance.

When booking, please ensure you select the 'Friends and Patrons' ticket type and your exhibition ticket discount will be applied at the checkout. If the discount is not applied please contact us.

Online Friends Events Programme - NEW for 2020

We have introduced a new series of exclusive online talks to provide our Friends events programme in a different format this year. There are two talks per month with each remaining available for two weeks so you can choose when you would like to watch them.

No booking or advance registration is required in order to view these free Friends only talks. The links to view them will be sent out each fortnight as part of our Friends email newsletter. If you have a Friends membership but do not currently receive our Friends email newsletter please contact [email protected] to sign up.

Our talks have so far featured a range of highlights from our collections including works by Turner and Van Gogh.

Choose your Friends membership package

Please buy or renew your membership or gift using the options below. For our Duo or Philanthropic Friend memberships you have the option of naming two Friends cardholders who live at the same address or a single cardholder who can bring an unnamed guest.

Pay by Direct Debit and save £5

Download our form to set up a recurring annual Direct Debit and benefit from a £5 discount. Print out the form, fill it in and post it to us or take it to one of our Gallery shops or ticket desks. You can also pick up a form in any Gallery or contact us to have a form posted out to you.

Once you have a Direct Debit set up we will send out your new Friends membership card automatically each year a few weeks before your expiry date. Please contact us when you receive your new card or at any point throughout the year if you wish to make any changes to your Direct Debit.

Upgrade at any time

You can upgrade your Friends membership at any point during the year. If you are a Solo Friend why not upgrade to a Duo Friend membership for only £15 extra and take a guest with you each time you visit an exhibition?
