Loch Coruisk, Skye by Joseph Mallord William Turner A5 postcard
£2.00
A5 (14.8 x 21 cm) single postcard featuring Loch Coruisk, Skye by Joseph Mallord William Turner, part of the National Galleries of Scotland Collection.
The foreground figures help establish the scale of this awe-inspiring view over the remote Loch Coruisk. The Cuillin Mountains soar above the loch like gigantic waves. Water, rock and cloud fuse together in a whirling vortex.
Turner skilfully conveys the powerful grandeur of the scene on a small sheet of paper, drawing on his memory and the pencil sketches he made after the spectacular climb from the loch-shore.
Joseph Mallord William Turner (23 April 1775 – 19 December 1851), known as J. M. W. Turner, was an English Romantic painter, printmaker, and watercolourist, known for his brilliant, expressive colourisation, imaginative landscapes and turbulent, often violent marine paintings.
