A5 (14.8 x 21cm) single postcard featuring artwork Aleppo 2017-18 by Jenny Saville, from the National Galleries of Scotland Collection.

In Aleppo, Saville has used charcoal and pastel, dynamically layering and blending the media to create an image of a stone-like form holding up the cradled bodies, reminiscent of the 'Pietà'. Aleppo is the first painting made by Saville to refer to a contemporary conflict, the Syrian Civil War.

Jenny Saville is best known for her large-scale oil paintings of female nudes and use of paint to depict flesh. After graduating from the Glasgow School of Art in 1992, she received widespread acclaim and has gone on to have a hugely successful international career. Exhibitions of her work have taken place worldwide, including solo exhibitions at the Museo d’Arte Contemporanea Roma (Rome, Italy), Norton Museum of Art (West Palm Beach, USA) and Modern Art Oxford (Oxford, UK).
