Illustrations from A Plain and Easy Account of the British Ferns, by Mrs Lankester, published by Robert Hardwick, London 1859.
This book was published at the height of the Victorian fern craze, when fern foray parties, fernery gardens and indoor Wardian case collections (similar to terrariums) were all the rage. The author Charles Kingsley coined the term 'Pteridomania' in 1855 to describe this national passion. This notecard pack contains five studies of fern species labelled with their Latin names.
