Single greeting card featuring the image Japanisches Theater [Japanese Theatre] by Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, from the collection of the National Galleries of Scotland.

Printed with soy-based inks on 250gsm FSC or recycled card stock. Packaged with a white envelope in a clear cellophane sleeve.

Ernst Ludwig Kirchner (6 May 1880 – 15 June 1938) was a German expressionist painter and printmaker and one of the founders of the artists group Die Brücke or "The Bridge", a key group leading to the foundation of Expressionism in 20th-century art.

This is one of Kirchner's first paintings to depict a stage scene. It shows actors from a Japanese theatre company performing at Dresden's Albert Theatre. Theatre and cabaret scenes were extremely popular among the Brücke expressionist group.

Kirchner saw an exhibition of Matisse paintings in December 1908, and this painting shows the influence of Matisse's flat areas of anti-naturalistic colour.
