Single sheet of gift wrap featuring a reproduction of an original wrapping paper design Design for Wrapping Paper (Deer and Trees) by Edward Bawden from the collection of the National Galleries of Scotland.

This linocut design was made to be reproduced as wrapping paper. This design shows Bawden’s skill in condensing and conveying the essential qualities of his subject, here using short strokes to suggest both the shape of the deer and the texture of its fur.

Edward Bawden was a British painter, illustrator and graphic artist. He was a fine watercolour painter but worked in many different media. His work and career is often associated with that of his contemporary Eric Ravilious. Bawden’s graphic designs have been praised for their simplification to the essence of the subject, their directness and humour.
