Loch Leven is here seen from above as it begins to thaw after a long spell of intense cold. The photograph is at once a record of a physical process as the ice melts, and a picture of eerily astounding beauty. Mary Queen of Scots was imprisoned in this island castle, and later escaped.
Patricia Macdonald is a Scottish artist-photographer, environmental researcher and academic with a background combining biological science and fine-art. Much of her recent work has involved aerial photography, in collaboration with Angus Macdonald through their Aerographica Partnership. The results are insightful and jewel-like visions of the surface of the earth.
