Loch Leven is here seen from above as it begins to thaw. The photograph is at once a record of a physical process as the ice warms and expands before melting and a picture of astounding beauty. Loch Leven castle was where Mary Queen of Scots was imprisoned in 1567 where she eventually escaped.

Patricia Macdonald is a Scottish photographic artist and graphic designer. Much of her recent work has involved aerial photography, in collaboration with her husband, Angus Macdonald, as pilot and operations manager. The results are some beautiful close-ups of cloud formations and jewel-like visions of the surface of the earth.
