Created for the First Minister's Christmas Card Project, in association with the National Galleries of Scotland. The sale of these cards will benefit the following charities: Catherine McEwan Foundation, The Mackintosh Appeal, Legion Scotland, Scotland's Charity Air Ambulance and Yorkhill Children's Charity.
This painting was commissioned for this project shows Artaban. The legend of Artaban, or the fourth wise man, is based on a novel by Henry van Dyke, which tells of a Persian scholar arrives too late to herald the birth of the Christ child.
Peter Howson is a British artist currently is working in Scotland. His paintings are mainly of the Glasgow underclass. Howson portrays this overtly working-class, masculine world with sympathy and tenderness.
