Utagawa Hiroshige (1797-1858), one of the great Japanese landscape artists famous for his ukiyo-e artwork, created views of his native Japan that are celebrated throughout the world. the cherry The cherry blossom tree, which is known as sakura in Japan, is the country’s national flower. Hiroshige’s distinct style blends Western influences with the meisho Japanese tradition. Inspired by Hiroshige, David Howell created this pattern of cherry blossoms to evoke the essence of Spring. Still early in the season, the flowers dance on leafless branches against the blue sky.
