This Must Be the Place by Roy Lichtenstein limited edition print
This must be the Place limited edition screen print by American artist Roy Lichtenstein. This screen-print is numbered in pencil lower left and blind stamped on the lower right: (Roy Lichtenstein 1965 / Roy Lichtenstein Foundation reprint 2002)
Roy Lichtenstein was an American artist known for his paintings and prints which referenced commercial art and popular culture icons like Mickey Mouse. During the 1960s, along with Andy Warhol, Jasper Johns, and James Rosenquist among others, he became a leading figure in the new art movement. His work defined the premise of pop art through parody.
The images are from comic books, but expanded in such a way that they both glorify and underscore the kitsch quality of the popular romantic narrative.
