'The Boy' Jia Aili Limited Edition Print

'The Boy' Jia Aili Limited Edition Print

Jia Aili was born in Dandong, China in 1979 and lives and works in Beijing. In 2004, he graduated from the New Representationalism Studio of the Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts, where he subsequently taught from 2005 to 2007, after which time he decided to focus exclusively on his career as a painter.

Whether reflecting on China's inauguration of the atomic bomb or the first satellites launched in 1970, the oil paintings of Chinese artist Jia Aili address the dramatic transformation of Chinese society over the past 50 years.

Jia deftly juxtaposes contemporary moods with a traditional figurative style. His abstract, fragmented landscapes, often interrupted with subjects that appear to be searching or drifting, are privately internal, speaking of the inner self rather than contemporary society in general. Concerned with the rapid urbanization of humankind, Jia’s paintings are often melancholic in their reflections of a world that is increasingly connected, yet lonely in individual cases.
