Sit by Paula Rego poster print

80 x 60 cm poster print featuring artwork Sit by Portuguese artist Paula Rego. Created to accompany the exhibition Paula Rego | Obedience and Defiance on display at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art from 23 Nov to 29 April 2020. Print comes rolled in a cardboard tube.

The last of three works which relate to Blake Morrison’s poem ‘Moth’ which is about marriage, Rego originally planned for a baby to be sitting on the figure’s lap but instead in the finished work the young woman is depicted pregnant. The artist intended the crossed legs to suggest a crucifixion.

Dame Paula Rego is a Portuguese-born visual artist who is particularly known for her paintings and prints based on storybooks.
