Crozier created a number of paintings showing views of Edinburgh. In this painting, the city is depicted in a Cubist style, where the buildings are represented by cubic blocks.
Scottish artist William Crozier studied at Edinburgh College of Art. He lived in Paris, and studied with the cubist painter André Lhote. He travelled to Italy and captivated by the light and shadows he attempted to capture them while adopting the lessons of Cubism. Following a fall in his studio, he died at age of thirty-seven, after suffering from haemophilia all his life.
