Spiral by Barbara Hepworth framed giclée print (62 x 82 cm)
62 x 82 cm framed giclée art print on textured watercolour paper with solid oak frame featuring Spiral by Barbara Hepworth, reproduced from an original 1960 work in oil and pencil on paper. The work features fluid sweeps of lilac contrasting with the bold straight lines which recreate the stringed forms that encapsulated so much of Hepworth's sculptural work.
Barbara Hepworth's drawings are often eclipsed by her sculpture work, but they show a highly skilled draughtsmanship. Hepworth often combined her drawings with paint and described them as sculptures 'born in the disguise of two dimensions.
Produced to accompany a major retrospective Barbara Hepworth | Art & Life, on show at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art (Modern Two) from 9 April until 2 October 2022. The largest exhibition of the artist’s work since her death in 1975, spanning her entire career.
Dame Jocelyn Barbara Hepworth DBE (10 January 1903 – 20 May 1975) was a British artist and sculptor. One of the twentieth century’s most inspiring artists and a pioneer of modernist sculpture and was one of the few female artists of her generation to achieve international prominence.
