Burns – After Flaxman 2023 by Calum Colvin framed limited edition giclée print created exclusively for the National Galleries of Scotland.

This limited edition of 150 prints is printed on Canson Infinity Rag 310gsm 100% cotton museum grade paper, signed and numbered by the artist with a certificate of authentication. Paper size = 60 x 50 cm, image size = 51.2 x 44 cm, borders: 30mm top and sides, 58mm bottom.

The print is float mounted with a 2.5 cm border with a hand painted white wooden frame (2 cm x 3.3 cm w x h approximate).

This work responds to the Flaxman statue in terms of the formality and solidity of the original work. It moves between greyness and colour - the tension between bookishness and bodily life, between marble columns and making a living, between stony deadness and live being. There are touches of the organic - green grass, flowers, straw, to add to the tensions between solidity, ghostliness, and vivacity.

Calum Colvin OBE RSA FRSE is a major contemporary Scottish artist whose work combines photography, painting, and installation, and often deals with issues of Scottish identity and culture.

Edition numbers are allocated on a sequential first come first served basis.
