25.5 x 20.5 cm mounted print (image size 9.5 x 9.5 cm) small mounted print of Two children before a lettered wall by Joan Eardley. This small, mounted print is ready to be framed.
Depicted in this painting are two children, who are thought to have lived near Eardley's studio in Glasgow, many who became regular visitors to her studio. Eardley has sketched the children in a child-like manner using pastel on sandpaper, using sandpaper as it was sometime more commonly available and cheaper than sketching paper.
Joan Kathleen Harding Eardley was a British artist noted for her portraiture of street children in Glasgow and for her landscapes of the fishing village of Catterline and surroundings on the North-East coast of Scotland. One of Scotland's most enduringly popular artists, her career was tragically cut short by breast cancer.
