The Awakening by William McCance art print
35.6 x 28 cm art print reproduction of The Awakening by William McCance from the National Galleries of Scotland Collection.
Museum Fine Art paper 280gsm, a gently textured etching paper particularly suited to giclee reproductions of artworks and paintings. Ideal for premium colour and monochrome prints.
This is one of several oils painted by McCance which feature vividly coloured, cubist-inspired nudes in a landscape. Specific stories seem to be suggested, though precisely what these are remains a mystery. The figures in the background appear to be making gestures but are obscured by the nudes in the front, caught in curiously contorted postures.
William McCance was a Scottish artist, and was second Controller of the Gregynog Press in Powys, mid-Wales. McCance was born in a suburb of Glasgow and studied at Glasgow School of Art from 1911-5. In 1918 he married a fellow student, Agnes Miller Parker (one of Britain's leading wood-engravers)
