Van Gogh’s Twin
Van Gogh's Twin: The Scottish Art Dealer Alexander Reid is the first biography of Alexander Reid, a key Scottish figure in the history of Western art. Frances Fowle examines the career of a man who was often a stubborn and difficult individual, as well as ‘a prince among dealers’.
A friend of Whistler and Van Gogh (to whom he bore an uncanny resemblance), Reid was one of the most outstanding art dealers of his time. Based in Glasgow, the ‘second city of the British Empire’, he supported the Glasgow Boys and the Scottish Colourists and profoundly influenced taste in Scotland, especially for impressionist art.
