Earl of Eglinton tartan beaded fabric decoration
Beautiful handmade fabric decoration of Hugh Montgomerie, 12th Earl of Eglinton based on the full length portrait in the National Galleries of Scotland Collection. This plush decoration is made in with intricate beading and embroidery work. The figure is shown with his sword and full traditional tartan dress.
Inspired by the portrait by the American artist John Singleton Copley, the imposing figure of Hugh Montgomerie strides out, with sword drawn, whilst a battle rages behind him. Montgomerie is shown in the dress of the 77th Highlanders, the unit in which he served in America.
This fair trade decoration is produced by Saint Nicholas. For over 25 years Saint Nicholas have worked with a Christian charity in Thailand to help disadvantaged women find work in their community, today some 200 skilled women work at home sewing St Nicolas decorations, and many of them have been doing so for more than 10 years.
