Thistle beaded tartan fabric decoration
Beautiful handmade thistle fabric decoration, this plush decoration is made with intricate embroidery and beading work, a souvenir of Scotland.
The thistle has been the national emblem of Scotland since the reign of Alexander III (1249–1286) and was used on silver coins issued by James III in 1470. The thistle is also used to symbolise connection with Scotland overseas.
This fair trade decoration is produced by Saint Nicholas. For over 25 years Saint Nicholas have worked with a Christian charity in Thailand to help disadvantaged women find work in their community, today some 200 skilled women work at home sewing St Nicolas decorations, and many of them have been doing so for more than 10 years.
