Highland dancing is often performed to the accompaniment of Highland bagpipe music and dancers wear specialised shoes called ghillies. It is now seen at nearly every modern-day Highland games event. It is competitive solo dancing developed in the Scottish Highlands in the 19th/20th centuries in the context of competitions at public events such as the Highland games.
This fair trade decoration is produced by Saint Nicolas. For over 25 years Saint Nicolas have worked with a Christian charity in Thailand to help disadvantaged women find work in their community, today some 200 skilled women work at home sewing St Nicolas decorations, and many of them have been doing so for more than 10 years.
